Absorption

« Back to Glossary Index

In water damage, absorption happens when materials like drywall, wood, carpet, or insulation soak up and hold water deep inside them (not just on the surface). This trapped moisture can make materials harder to dry, weaken them over time, and lead to problems like swelling, warping, or mold. Fixing water damage often requires special tools or methods to remove this hidden moisture.

Why it matters:

  • Materials act like sponges, holding water in their tiny spaces.
  • If not dried properly, it can cause long-term damage or health issues.
