Mold vs Mildew Pictures

Mold and mildew are both types of fungi that thrive in damp environments, but they differ in appearance, where they grow, and how they affect your home and health.

  • Mildew is typically white or gray, with a powdery or fluffy texture. It often grows on surfaces like bathroom walls, windowsills, or fabric. It’s easier to clean and usually less harmful.
  • Mold tends to be green, black, or blue with a fuzzy or slimy texture. It can grow deeper into surfaces like walls, ceilings, or wood. Some molds can cause health issues, including allergies or respiratory problems.

Key Difference: Mildew is surface-level and easier to remove, while mold is more invasive and potentially hazardous.
