What is Water Damage?

« Back to Glossary Index

Water damage happens when water gets into places it shouldn’t be, causing harm to buildings and belongings. It occurs when too much water soaks into materials and breaks them down.

Water damage can come from many sources like broken pipes, leaking appliances, roof problems, floods, poor drainage, or severe weather. How bad the damage is depends on how much water there is, how dirty the water is, how long the materials stay wet, and what kind of materials get wet.
