Moisture Mapping

« Back to Glossary Index

Moisture mapping is like making a “treasure map” of wet spots after water damage. Technicians use special tools (like moisture meters or infrared cameras) to scan walls, floors, and ceilings, then mark all the damp areas with notes or colors.

Why it’s important:

  • Shows exactly where water has spread (even hidden spots!)
  • Helps plan drying strategies – like seeing which walls need air movers
  • Creates a record to prove everything got dried properly

Example: After the roof leak, the crew made a moisture map with red zones for soggy drywall and blue zones for slightly damp areas.

Pro Trick: Good maps include moisture percentages – like “15% = dry, 30% = wet, 50% = SOAKED!”

📌 Bonus: Some techs use digital maps on tablets that look like weather radar for your house!
