An infrared camera (also called a thermal imaging camera) is a special device that “sees” heat instead of light. Water damage crews use it like an X-ray to find hidden wet spots in walls, floors, or ceilings by showing temperature differences where moisture is trapped.

Why it’s important:

  • Spots hidden water you can’t see with your eyes
  • Helps prevent mold by finding damp areas fast
  • Saves time – no need to tear open drywall just to check

Example: After the pipe leak, the technician scanned the walls with an infrared camera and found water traveling behind the bathroom tiles.

Cool Fact: These cameras make pictures look like rainbow heat maps – blue/purple for cold (wet) spots, red/yellow for dry areas! 🌈
